- 2.2 Authentication phase: Once the client has made a choice based upon the probe response packet, it begins the authentication phase. This phase can be performed in either open OR shared key mode. The client and the Access Point both have to be setup identically for this phase to be performed properly.
- 2.2.1 Open: The client sends an authentication request to the AP. The AP then processes this request and determines whether or not to allow the client the ability to continue to the association phase. The AP will then send an authentication response packet back to the client. The client will utilize this info and based upon the response will either continue or discontinue the association process.
